Long Lawford has grown
considerably since the Domesday book was compiled, it is now a large
village with a population of approximately 2831 people.
It is part of the borough of Rugby in the
county of Warwickshire. _________________
Long Lawford lies along the A428, one
mile from Rugby and ten miles from Coventry, the village has good amenities and has
excellent access to the motorway and railway networks of the UK, the
main West coast line cuts through the village and can be accessed by
the famous station at Rugby, the M1 and M6 motorways are only a
couple of miles away, none of these interfere with the peaceful
outlook of the village. Long Lawford has reasonable shops: a
Co-operative general store which contains a post office, an
independent general store, a hairdressers, a Chinese and an Indian
takeaway. The village boasts three public houses [The
Caldecott Arms, The Lawford Arms and the Sheaf and Sickle]
and a Royal British Legion club. Long Lawford has an excellent primary
school,
the under 5,s centre has recently been privately refurbished and is
now back in use on a regular basis. Sadly St Johns church has now closed,
but services are held in the old church hall, also there is a
Methodist chapel. There is a well used
Memorial hall which is
available to hire for private functions. There is a community centre within the site of
Thomas Way andHirst Close which can be used by the residents.
