The Domesday Book

The lands of Geoffrey de la Guerche
The same Geoffrey holds 5 hides in Lelleford. [Long Lawford] There is land for 14 ploughs. In demesne is 1[plough]; and 14 villans and 7 bordars have 7 ploughs. There is a mill rendering 14s.
It was worth 40s,: now 50s.

________________

Long Lawford has grown considerably since the Domesday book was compiled, it is now a large village with a population of approximately  2831 people.
It is part of the borough of Rugby in the county of Warwickshire.

_________________

Long Lawford lies along the A428, one mile from Rugby and ten miles from Coventry, the village has good amenities and has excellent access to the motorway and railway networks of the UK, the main West coast line cuts through the village and can be accessed by the famous station at Rugby, the M1 and M6 motorways are only a couple of miles away, none of these interfere with the peaceful outlook of the village.
Long Lawford has reasonable shops: a Co-operative  general store which  contains a post office, an independent general store, a hairdressers, a Chinese and an Indian takeaway. The village boasts three public houses [
The Caldecott Arms, The Lawford Arms and the Sheaf and Sickle] and a Royal British Legion club.
Long Lawford has an excellent primary school, the under 5,s centre has recently been privately refurbished and is now back in use on a regular basis.
Sadly St Johns church has now closed, but services are held in the old church hall, also there is a Methodist chapel.
There is a well used Memorial hall which is available to hire for private functions.
There is a community centre within the site of Thomas Way and Hirst Close which can be used by the residents.
